August isn’t hot just for us normals, it affects the pedophile murderin’ types, too.

Hate Crime Lovin'

With the surge of Russian nationalism hate crime mania sweeping the media, we at DP Bureau are happy to report that the recent murder of an ethnic Azerbaijani in St. Petersburg probably wasn't racially motivated. From the looks of it, it was a purely biznes razborka. The victim, let's call him Rahmad, was known to be a high-roller, probably connected the lucrative Azeri-controlled watermelon kiosk racket.

On August 13, Rahmad was having a good time in a cafe in St. Petersburg's Primorsky neighborhood. At around 11 p.m., he was seen leaving the cafe with a girl he picked up that night. On the way over to his pad, Rahmad had some biznes to take care of. Rahmad met his associate on the street, not far where he lived, leaving his girl waiting in the car. The meeting seemed to be going well until Ramad's mysterious associate took out a gun and fired two shots. One went through Rahmad's hand, the other got lodged in his chest. As expected, the shooter quickly disappeared. So did Rahmad's girlfriend. Without waiting for the cops to arrive, she split, leaving her lover dying and begging for help on the street.

When the cops checked his documents, Rahmad turned out to be unregistered. Unfortunately, seeing that he was dead, the militsia couldn't shake him for a bribe. But the cops did manage to establish one thing: having been tried for murder as well as many other petty crimes, Rahmad was a career convict. Case closed.

Quality Time

What better way to spend father-son quality time on a hot August than to share a bottle of crisp, cold vodka? Doubly so if it's a weekday and you've got no job. Surprisingly, that's exactly the situation that a 67-year-old pensioner and his 37-year-old son, both residents of Gar-Pkrovskoe, a village on the outskirts of Moscow, found themselves in. Their names aren't known, neither is the reason for their quarrel. But the reason doesn't matter. The important thing here is that the son was slow on the draw. The father drew the kitchen knife first and plunged it to the hilt into his son's stomach. But gramps didn't try to flee or dispose of the body; he just stumbled out of his hovel, leaving his son drunk and bleeding to death at the kitchen table. After a tip-off, the local militsia found the pensioner wandering around the settlement. He surrendered without a struggle.
