eXile Zap Rally - Full Steam Ahead
By Matt Taibbi Browse author

On Sunday morning, we will wake up as soon as we are able and get back on the road. In Vladimir we will stop to hold another "miting", most likely on the theme of the hangover. Then we will set off for Moscow.

We hope to reach Moscow sometime around 6 p.m. Due to the collectivist spirit of the event, the Zap rally is not a "race" in the classic sense. We will be travelling in a column, and for one car to try to outrun another would, of course, defeat the entire purpose of the event. Therefore the eXile would be extremely irresponsible in encouraging participants to run each other off the road and floor it in the last stage of the rally. The race ends when the Zaps arrive on the Vasilevsky Spusk. Since we will not have official permission to hold a "miting", or even stop really, on the Spusk, we will repair from there immediately to the eXile party site. The site has yet to be determined, but we'll publish that information in the next issue. What we can tell you is that the party will include lots of cheap booze, performances by Detsky Panadol and by 2 Zap Crue, a group which formed specially for this event to perform its Zap-inspired single, "It Can't Drive 55." We will also be auctioning off the eXile Zap -- we will be prepared to make a legal sale on site.

That's about all for now. The mechanics that are currently working round the clock in Arzamas on the eXile Zap fleet have been given a deadline of August 4 to put the cars in racing condition. On August 5, we will be holding a "Zap-Cross" with the eXile Zaps on a local off-road race track. I'll be reporting from that event in the next issue. Until then, stay tuned and start your engines...
