Vinny Vinny

Krizis Zhanra / June 9 / 23:00

Vinny Vinny

Given the insane crowds that Krizis Zhanra draws on weekends, it would certainly seem that Britpop (or "indie" as they kids are rather incorrectly calling it) is the new techno. Or at least the new background music to getting smashed. Anyway, Nash and friends continue their streak of getting rather unattractive British guys laid by putting them on stage and letting them wail in front of a responsive crowd of hot single chicks. This time, the band is Vinny Vinny, who are supposedly at the forefront of the UK's nascent indie/soul movement. Some describe them as "Mick Jagger getting blown by Aretha Franklin," but since we didn't bother to listen to the mp3 we were sent, we'll never know if that was pure press release talk or not. Local eXhole faves Blast and Hung Electric share the stage.

Red Devil DJ Battle

Gazgallery (Nizhny Susalny Per. 5) / June 9 / 23:00

Red Devil DJ Battle

The energy drink market in Russia is one competitive motherfucker. While the rest of the world is content to drink its Red Bulls, Russians have the privilege of choosing between the classic, as well as something appropriately called Burn, the white trash alco-energy cocktail Jaguar and this shit, Red Devil. See, u nas ne huzhe! Anyway, in order to differentiate your energy-drink 'n vodka from the masses, Red Devil has decided to organize a nationwide DJ battle, with the first beatdown happening here in Moscow. Some presumably famous Moscow DJs like DJ Fish, Ed Cosmonaut and Oleg Ojo will be spinning on two dancefloors, along with four local unknowns who will be trying to win a spot playing the final party at the end of June with some dude who used to be in the Prodigy.

Kathy Brown

Rai / June 9 / 23:00

Kathy Brown

Look, we can't exactly say that this is gonna be the shit, right? But if you're looking for the hottest party in town, and have lots of coin to throw down, you can't beat Rai. Hell, even jaded Hannah Katz was impressed once she got inside. In any case, Kathy Brown is a disco diva from South Carolina who got her start in the legendary funk band Praxis, playing with Bootsy Collins and John Zorn. Somehow, after getting some fame from this semi-avant work, she got more into house music, and started providing vocals to tracks by David Morales, Blaze and Masters at Work, suggesting that if you've spent some time at a serious dance club in the last decade, you've probably heard her pipes at least once.

War Nerd Summer Reading Guide
The War Nerd By Gary Brecher
It’s summer, you’ve got a little more time off, so you can read up on war instead of trying to live in whatever boring suburb you live in. Lawns, neighbors, dogs, kids—it all sucks and the best thing you can do is get as far out of it as you can.
